There’s much to be proud of in this remarkable year of Irish rugby, but rumours of discontent among Leinster players in the Lions camp threaten to disrupt what should be a celebration of Ireland’s achievements. Apparently, several Leinster stars are unhappy with the uniform.
“Red is Munster’s colour,” Luke Fitzgerald is said to have grumbled, “and we’re the ones going to the Heineken Cup final. We feel a switch to blue would be appropriate, especially if we win.”
Brian O’Driscoll is also said to have some issues with his kit, claiming it’s not stylish enough to wear into certain South Dublin establishments. He is said to favour a complete design overhaul and has suggested John Rocha or Paul Smith as visionaries who could make the uniform very, very special.
Munster players also commented on the row but not in language we can repeat.
